CFA Institute Launches Private Equity Certificate

The Advanced Private Equity Certificate aims to equip PE professionals with applicable skills.


The CFA Institute on Monday announced the launch of its Advanced Private Equity Certificate, intended to broaden the skillset of private equity professionals and those in investment banking looking to transition into private equity.

The new certificate will build off the institute’s existing Private Equity Certificate, a required prerequisite for the advanced certificate. The new certificate will cover areas such as partnership governance, due diligence, financial modeling, valuation and strategic communication.

“As private equity continues to be an integral element of many institutional portfolios, the new Advanced Private Equity Certificate offers a comprehensive and practical learning experience tailored for investment professionals who want to specialize in advanced private equity practices,” said Richard Fernand, the CFA Institute’s senior head of learning content and innovation, in a statement.

Registration for the fully online certification program is open. Content is expected to be available to access on August 19. The certificate will consist of four courses totaling 100 hours in length and developed in partnership with industry experts, covering:

  • General partner tool kit;
  • Advanced private debt valuation techniques;
  • Advanced financial modeling; and
  • Limited partner perspectives.

“This certificate provides actionable learning into the intricate dynamics of private equity, ensuring that participants can directly apply what they learn to their professional roles,” Fernand said in the statement. “This certificate represents another step forward in our mission to support the development of the financial profession’s brightest talent.”
